Cole at times, which could lead to a really prominent career. Quita has some real talent and with the right marketing and more experience in the game he could do something big. We’ll see if Quita is able to find the sound that sets him apart and propells him to the next level. For now click here to download and listen to this great mixtape.

Make sure to keep an eye out for Quita’s music video for Where You Been At dropping this summer.

G*T*N was my first experience with Mike Mulligan. As usual, I had an open mind when getting into it. There are a couple key points that make this a solid mixtape. For one, Mike takes a style of flow that’s becoming popular these days, and makes it his own. I really like how Mike takes simple stories and ideas, and is able to rap about them for songs at a time. Judging by G*T*N, Mike could probably take any given topic and write however many bars he needed to about it. Being able to write quality rhymes about everyday life is a crucial skill that makes G*T*N great. Secondly, I was literally amazed by the instrumental selection. There are many familiar sounds on these tracks that Mike personally selected to use as instrumentals. Many of these are recognizable, but not as beats for hiphop. I absolutely love how well each of these go with Mike’s lyrics and they really set G*T*N apart. I appreciated this so much because I was able to enjoy sounds I already liked, but in a new way. Overall, this is a solid piece of work by Mike Mulligan. The flow of the mixtape as a whole goes nicely; fairly short tracks with very interesting instrumentals under nice lyrics to keep the listener interested. I would definitely recommend checking out Mike Mulligan and G*T*N. For one, I love it and I want to keep listening to it. For two, Salute and KDubb offer lyrics that are incredible and it’s taken me a few listens to really wrap my head around the pure poetry that these guys write. I was honestly amazed by these lyrics. The thing I really appreciate is that they use well-made instrumentals that fit, but they don’t hide behind them. By that, I mean that they don’t use a super loud and aggressive beat and then put mediocre lyrics behind it. They write quality rhymes that tell a story in each song. Salute and KDubb don’t clutter up Golden State of Mind, they lay down material through steady, easy flow. They are able to say what they want to say, and does so in a stylish manor. My favorite songs on Golden State of Mind are Live For Today, Street Shit, and especially, Slave to Money. I highly recommend checking this mixtape out, I really enjoyed reviewing it and I’m sure you’ll be glad you gave it a listen. Download Golden State of Mind here. Follow Salute on Twitter: @Salu_Te

Take a listen to Dark Ages below.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from a mixtape that involves such a collaboration, but after listening to #NoMoreNoLess for about a week now, I’m more than satisfied. #NoMoreNoLess is a collaborative project from Block-Syndicate Music group in Memphis, TN. They’ve been getting some solid attention lately and it’s clear why. I really like the different elements that each artist brings to the table on this project. #NoMoreNoLess consists of work by Squeeze aka Kraft, Payso Jones, Mr 420, and Sean K. Each artist has his own voice on these tracks, and they come together nicely for a great finished product. The instrumental selection on this is pretty consistent, but it works well for each artist’s style. The flow I got from #NoMoreNoLess is intense. They have a full, solid sound that still kept a good flow throughout each song. Overall, a solid piece of work that I enjoyed reviewing. I definitely recommend this mixtape to anyone who enjoys rap music and is looking for something new. Look out for these guys, I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about them.
